Mammoth Cave

Mammoth Cave National Park was established in 1941, the 26th of America's National Parks to be designated. The park encompasses portions of the world's longest cave system, with more than 400 miles of mapped-out passageways - and plenty more waiting to be discovered! The park is part of the Green River valley of south-central Kentucky. The caves were used more than 4,000 years ago by prehistoric hunter-gatherers, and later Native Americans are thought to have mined the cave for gypsum and other minerals.
