Channel Islands National Park was established in 1980, the 40th National Park to receive designation. The park is comprised of 5 of the 8 remarkable and ecologically rich islands off the southern California coast. The islands feature an immensely diverse plant and animal population with over 2,000 species, some found nowhere else on Earth.
